I think that is always the issue with an L3 Project...
What are you going to do with it afterwards?
And I applaud all of you who have L3 Projects and fly them again... Or, like
Richard, plan ahead...
Mine hangs in my garage (too bad I don’t have some trophy room in the House...)
because I will never fly it again...
* Expense...
* Complexity...
* Transport issues...
I have the gratification of my Qualification into that "Godly Group of L3
Fliers", but still...
And, kind of along the same lines as Richard's Post...
How many of you remember "Team Tarantula’s Itsy Bitsy"? A Club Project...
Well, I still have "Bits of Itsy" sitting in my garage... Ready to Fly (for a
"lets all check this out first" definition of "ready to fly" (I received it
"incomplete" and filled in the pieces, thanx to Matt for a bunch of custom G10
bits. Made it ready to fly... Then realized I had little motivation to spend
the money on a reload for it...)... A few of us (Wedge, led...) had
inclinations to build a new Booster for it, based on (at least) a 6-inch
motor... And destined for Balls...
Never happened... Still sitting in my garage...

Subject: [roc-chat] Suggestion When Building Your L3 Rocket
If you are planning on going for your L3 certification and building that
rocket, I suggest considering what you could do with it after the L3 flight. I
think many people launch their rocket and after the expense of buying the M
don’t see much of a reason to get a similar motor and launch it again. So, I
suggest if you are designing and building it, do it for that larger motor, or
being a booster for the two stage rocket you are going to build and fly at
BALLS or XPRS. I changed the size and length of the motor mount for my L3 that
started out being a Nike Smoke and I’m glad I did. It will make a great
booster and has a 98 mm instead of a 75mm motor tube.
My 2 cents.
