Pyrogen is typically used for motor ignition. Pyrodex is not the same as
pyrogen, although Pyrodex pellets can be used to augment an ignitor. Note that
the pellets aren't the only form Pyrodex comes in.

Usually for ejection, some kind of powder that generates a lot of gas is used.
However, this needs to be balanced against the amount of heat that is also
generated. BP is a traditional method since it's somewhat readily available
and produces predictable, consistent results. Pyrodex powder can be used, but
does not burn the same as BP. It needs some kind of containment, nor is it a
"gram-for-gram" substitution for BP. Other powders may also work, but have
similar constraints, or else they burn too fast or too slow for the containment
methods commonly used for BP.
