The one other person who was experiencing the same problem as you with Thunderbird just posted a message saying that upgrading to TB 8 solved her problem and the world is round again.
Just figured I'd let you know in case you were interested in making a restore point and giving it another shot.

At any rate, I'm glad I didn't have to re-image my system, it was probably foolish of me to put a new upgrade on a production machine, but I never imagined this would happen. I'm in the middle of two albums and the last thing I need is a big re-install. Well, hopefully others will give feedback, and bugs will get fixed, one of my students was good enough to alert me to the window-eyes issues with sonar. and I really hope window-eyes and jaws will play nice together on the same system, and I'm not forced to make a choice.
