I am 100% opposed to censorship and have spent much energy trying to fight it
in any form. However, I don't care for people that promote hate speech. I
don't believe people should be called stupid or labeled because of their race,
religion, or disabilities. People's lives get ruined by stuff like this.
However, it's been going on as long as time, way before the internet, when
people's CHARACTERS AND reputations were Questioned AND TRASHED In the village
knitting circle or pub or whatever. The internet just gives this type of thing
a much wider spread. Jim is right that when you try to sensor one type of
speech someone else might ask Yahoo to sensor you. Maybe a company like
Freedom Scientific would ask them to kill a group that said justifiably bad
things about it's products. Once you open that Pandora's box it's a slippery
slope till everything is outlawed. I still would like to see that group
banned on some grounds that wouldn't hurt everyone else who uses those groups
for a good purpose. A friend of mine had a sign that said never explain. Your
friends don't need explanations and your enemies won't believe you anyway.

Let's say, theoretically, I want to start a Yahoo! group demegrating and
trashing anyone from Cincinnati!
Man, I just can't stand anyone from Cincinnati!
Should anyone join my group? Should anyone acknowledge the existence of my
group or dignify its creation by discussing it with others? Should my group
be allowed to languish or flourish depending on its quality or merit?

Let's hope that Yahoo! groups remains uncensored and does not try to deny
anyone their first amendment rights as long as the group operates within the
confines of the law.

If the group mentioned in this message does exist, it will wither and die a
slow, agonizing death under the weight of its own insignificance.

Thanks for posting this to the list Nancy. That is really jacked up. I
wondered when all this democracy out here would be used to hurt people. The
scary thing is, I know folks that would love a list like this. What a
wonderful use of computer time, causing other people pain, not!
Folks love to flame others from the safety and anonymity of their homes but,
they will be judged if they throw stones like this.

Hi everybody, I just received this on another list and thought that you
should know about it. I don't know if there is anything that can be done about
this, but it's really bad. Here is the message.
  Hi all.

Are you all aware that on yahoogroups, there is a group called blind-tard.
This group is specifically to denegrade, trash and otherwise insult blind
people. I was told about it and went to investigate it. I have been told
that there are blind people who have gone to investigate this and have
written to yahoogroups, so I thought I'd pass this on in case you were so
inclined. I have already sent some feedback to yahoogroups myself. Below
is how this group advertises itself. You can find it yourself on
  yahoogroups. It's quite despicable.

Welcome to the Blind Tards yahoo group. Have you ever had to deal with a
stupid blind person? Someone so stupid they deserve to be on your better off
  dead
list? Have you seen someone who has the social grace of a pet rock, the
brains of a giant sea turtle, and the common sense of a sunbather in the
  antarctic?
Well, here's the place to tell the world. We would encourage you to change
names where appropriate, but if you don't, then we're not responsible for
  any backlash. We don't give a rat's a$$ ...(
