Speakup is still shipping with Slackware, and judging from the release notes
for Slackware, it appears that Speakup does get some updating, but it
doesn't look like it is real active. Bummer. I remember getting real
fired-up when there was a feature article in Linux Journal on screen readers
for Linux, and Speakup was a major part of that--if I recall correctly. I
was really hoping Speakup would take off when that article was released.

Know what you mean about learning much but not wanting to repeat the
process. Same here with my Drupal install. It wasn't nearly as bad as trying
to compile the kernel with Speakup way back when, but it isn't something I
want to mess with either.

Hi Mitch!
No sir no speakup. I don't think it's being updated or really supported any
longer. I don't even know who runs the project anymore. Used to be a
fellow from Canada as I recall. But no I use a screen reader called UXDOTS
that has both braille and speech support. Tell the truth I had such a hard
time getting it up and running that I'm afraid to fool with it much! LOL!
Don't wanna break it again. Had lots of help and it was fun and I learned a
LOT, but I wouldn't wanna do it again any time soon.
Thanks a lot
Jack In Texas
