If the Mac is running, press Command F5 to turn on Voiceover.
When it is running, press Control Option Command F8 for a great
getting started tutorial.

Press Control Option H for a help menu with various options.

On the Vision Australia web site, there are tons of great audio
tutorials explaining how to read mail, surf the web, how to use the
Finder, and on and on.
Don't hesitate to write if you have more questions.
