Whatever we do, those two weeks between the meeting and Westchester Commons
will be busy……..those particle board bookcases that I brought there……if no one
wants them, then we can have the “Viking Funeral” Tom always talks about (we
can roast hot dogs and make S’mores), or those will be taken to the LandFill.

That was a comment on size, not the availability of my space. Mine is in use.

I have a 10/8 at 163 per month - climate controlled.
I think that would work for the majority of the layout.

First and foremost. I did ask about other availability at Westchester
Commons. Mark reiterated “November 1”. Read into that anything you want.
The 5x10 is as stated earlier a short term for whatever doesn’t go on the
trailer. We need to be getting those items moved ASAP.
The worst case, with us loading prior to November 1, we should not be
seeing any excessive heat for at least 7 months.
As for conditioned space for everything, that’s an appropriate discussion
for the next meeting. Time for anyone wanting to pursue that option to
determine the size, availability, cost, and location.

Seems like business activity in Westchester has been picking up so it was
pretty inevitable we were going to be kicked out in the near future. We
were very fortunate to have the space and for free as long as we have. A
couple of questions:
There are still some empty storefronts in Westchester. Could Westchester
allow us to move into one of them come February?
If we have to go back to permanent trailer storage would it be better to
rent a larger storage unit where we could store the entire large layout
and any other miscellaneous stuff. We would have to move it out twice a
year for the Tractor Museum and SMV/Great Big Greenhouse shows but
otherwise it would stay in the storage rental. The temperature swings the
layout sees in the trailer are brutal. All the plywood tops on the
original modules have warped to some degree and I'm afraid trailer storage
will just make it worse. The club has a great bank account balance and
with the income from the shows we should be able to cover storage rental
for a long time. Besides, with the layout in storage we shouldn't have
many expenses for it.

We have known for some time that the storefront was actively being
marketed for lease. Last April before the York TCA meet, I was under the
impression that a lease was signed. That deal fell through.
I have been extremely hesitant to publicize any rumors regarding the
storefront. In recent weeks, I appears that the space will indeed be
leased. In my last conversation with Mark Bowen, there still is not a
signed lease. But, contractors are in the process of rebidding the
conversation of the space. Mark indicated that it is 98% sure that this is
a done deal. In any event, he has asked us to make plans to be out of the
space by 11/1/23.
Per our original business plan, the large layout will be taken down and
stored on the large trailer. It has spent quite a while on trailer(s) over
the years. And let me remind you that we have the SMV display coming up in
November, followed immediately by the GBGH in Dec/Jan, We will have no
lack of opportunities to run trains!
Now for the good news. Next door Santa Land is available for setup and
operation of both the 12x15 and 6x15 layouts. We will first be setting up
the 12x15. And then after its' York TCA appearance the 6x15 will also be
setup.
The board has decided to rent a 5x10 storage unit. Anything that is not
going on the trailer(s) can be stored there. This is intended to be a
short term solution. The RF&P Board is meeting 9/14/23. I plan to bring
the cost of the storage unit up.
Please let me know if you have questions or comments.
