I have the DZ1008 relays wired, and working. They are a booger. BUT that
Lionmaster A has single rollers. The spacing is prefect to cause the power to
drop out over the double-slip.

Tom,
Congrats on getting your layout up and running.
My experience with TMCC steamers that have only 2 pickup rollers on
the engine is they tend to stall out over some switches. None of my TMCC
non-articulated steam engines like my Atlas #5 switches. Fortunately there
are pickup rollers on the tender so I've added a single wire tether to the
tender tying all the pickup rollers together. Of course this defeats the
purpose of Lionel's wireless tether but it eliminates stalling on
switches. Newer Legacy engines come with 4 rollers on the engine as well
as the 2 on the tender so they shouldn't stall. Interestingly none of my 2
roller pickup MTH engines stall on switches. I can only figure the
material MTH uses on their pickup rollers is more conductive then what
Lionel uses.
Doesn't Ross have a wiring diagram showing how to add a couple of
DZ1008 relays to the double slip switch to help prevent stalling?
To Russell's point on using DCS to run Lionel engines, I agree that
the DCS "system" is superior to the old Lionel TMCC system. However, I
really like using the Cab2 Legacy system and pretty much use it to run all
my Lionel engines for a lot of reasons. If you haven't tried the Cab2, you
should. Both DCS and Legacy are pretty much equivalent systems now. They
both control very well, just differ in the details.

I know the die hard Lionel guys dont want to hear this, but Toms
explanation of his operating layout supports my opinion that the MTH DCS
system is heads and above all the other systems out there--including
Lionel. But, they are still great railroading experiences for the
operating trainworld, and look how far the hobby has come in the last
50.

Subject: [rc3r] Tom's Home Layout Update
Just for the crew, I thought I'd send out an update on my
home layout.
All 24 Ross switches are wired and working. The MTH DCS
Routes are programmed and work like a champ. The double
cross-over and two double slips are up and running. The only
issue there is my Lionel TMCC N&W Lionmaster A has an issue
with the double slips. The rollers aren't spanning the gap
and the locomotive is losing power over these switches. The
dinky MTH H-3 Consolidation has no problem. It just
putts right across them w/o any problems.
I picked up a Lionel Great Big Button on eBay for less than
$25. Works great and the granddaughters love it. The TMCC
has been tested and running. I have also been running TMCC
w/ the MTH DCS. Honestly, I like TMCC with DCS better than
with the Cab1. For the cost of a cable, we can connect the
DCS on the club layout to the Cab1L Legacy.
BIG shout-out to Bob Buehler on running Legacy with TMCC. I
"thought" my sole Legacy engine would not run on my layout
w/o a Legacy Command base. Well, it runs like a champ with
the TMCC Command Base!. I have also been running it with the
DCS. These Legacy engines are neat. This thing creeps
along w/ a "1" setting on the DCS remote. I know, I
know the Legacy has 200 speed steps. The 128 on TMCC
isn't bad.
I need to confirm isolation on my power districts. There may
be a couple of isolation pins left to add. But, I general
this thing is running.
