Gentlemen thanks.
Peter, Pleasant’s hardware didn’t have any sort of magnetizing device so I went
on line and found a set of 3 blocks for $13. I’ve ordered them and I’ll keep
you posted on how they work out.
Tom, thanks for the Vaseline tip. I also tried to magnetize by winding a wire
around the shaft of the screwdriver and attaching each end to the poles on a 9V
battery. The battery gets pretty warm but I can’t detect any charge on the
screwdriver. Am I missing something? I counted 22 winds.
Thanks

These sets are from Home Depot……plus you can get a magnetizer from ACE which
will magnetize the screwdriver for a short period of time, usually long enough
to accomplish what you want.

I can show you how to magnetize your screwdrivers. For handling screws, if you
dab the tip of the screwdriver in Vasoline, it does a great job of holding the
screw.

Subject: [rc3r] Magnetic Screwdrivers
I’m making a few repairs on some of my MTH trains and while my set of small
screwdrivers does a wonderful job disassembling, a magnetic set would make it
much easier putting things back together. Does anybody have any suggestions
where I can find a nice set that’s 🧲? A set would be 3 flat and 3 philips.
Thanks.
