I think if any donation acknowledgements or letters are required this
should be handled between Dexter and the RF&P Treasurer.
Did the fellow making the donation ask for anything in return - that is
did he need some charitable contribution letter for his taxes or did he
make the donation no strings attached?
Greetings all,
The previous board had an objective to get this donations thing straight,
but never did. Consequently, I’m going to make a command decision based on
my outrageous years of service as president and the vast accumulation of
knowledge and insight that only someone in my rare position could develop.
· If a SIG is handed a non-monetary donation, and the donor wants
nothing more in exchange. Take it, thank them, and we’re done. The SIG
may keep or pass the donation to another SIG or the RF&P as they see fit.
· If a SIG is handed a monetary donation, and the donor wants
nothing more in exchange. Make a record of the donation in the SIG
financial statement so that it can be reported back to the RF&P. Unless
directed by the donor otherwise, the SIG keeps the donation.
· If a SIG is handed either a monetary or non-monetary donation,
and the donor would like a letter:
o The SIG should get the donor’s full name and address,
o If the donor has a value that they wish to place on their donation
(although they don’t have to), the SIG should get that from the donor,
o The SIG provides this information to the RF&P Treasure who will send
a letter to the donor acknowledging the gift and providing our Federal ID
number,
o The SIG may keep or pass the donation as they see fit.
All donation letters are to come from the RF&P Treasurer. The only values
that will be included in a letter are those provided by the donor – we are
to make no valuations or appraisals – and the letter will state that the
value was provided by the donor. I understand that many donors would like
for us to give them an idea of what it’s worth, and if you do that
verbally, on your own as an individual not representing the club, qualified
as not a professional appraisal, that’s fine. Also, don’t tell me about
it.
The RF&P will receive the monetary donations associated with RF&P
established shows and activities, and those designated for the RF&P. I
would expect each SIG to keep any monetary donations made directly to them
or for shows or activities they do on their own. Similarly, non-monetary
donations (typically trains, track and such) can be kept by the receiving
SIG and put to their best use, even if it’s not their scale. Or, they can
pass it to one of the other SIGS or back to the RF&P for the general good.
We have had a good history of sharing in these types of gifts and being
generous with one another, and I’d expect that tradition to continue.
I expect all three SIGs to follow this guidance and I’ve attempted to copy
the appropriate people on this message, but feel free to forward as
necessary. If there’s any question, let me know.

HO, but there are some beautiful brass locomotives in that group. There is
one 1/2” scale water tank kit, if anyone is into LGB size. The O gauge
items are what looks to be an MPC DT&I SW1500 and about 6 MPC cars. Looks
like Gilly doesn’t have to bring his granddaughter’s set any longer :-).
We also have a hobbyist 4” disk sander, s Badger 380-11 airbrush
compressor, and the cutest little drill press, with bits. From the bottom
of the base to the top of the post is about 10”.
I’m away this weekend (again) from Friday through Monday, so I’ll deliver
the items when I get w/ Tom to rout the bridge module.

Got your contact info from the Science Museum. My wife and I are selling
our big home in Henrico, and I have some 60 to 80 model railroad building
kits, engine kits (some brass unpainted), storage boxes, etc. that I would
like to sell or donate to a model railroad club. Most is in HO scale,
although I do have some old Lionel cars and an engine that one of my kids
wanted years ago.
If you all are interested, contact me and we can set up a time for a
couple of you to come out and take a look. I need to have them out, though,
no later than the middle of next week as our house goes on the market the
week after.
My home is in Henrico County, located just S of River Road just W of the
Parham Road overpass.
