Does the RF&P have a written policy / guideline for donations? If so, we should
follow it. If not, this is what I would say the policy should look something
like this:
1) Get a fair appraisal / assessment of market value of the items, not
sure how to accomplish this without costing the club money – perhaps somebody
just looks them up and sees what they’re going for? Not sure.
2) Provide a receipt with the listed items and estimated market value to
the donor
3) I would posit the SIG that received the items should get first crack at
what they want to retain
4) The remaining SIG’s should get an opportunity to retain any items that
were not desired by the receiving SIG, possibly in exchange for a below-market
value donation to the receiving SIG
5) Items offered for sale, first to SIG members, then to all RF&P members,
then to general public
6) Sale money retained by SIG, perhaps small percentage to RF&P?
If the RF&P has a policy, we need to have a copy of it. If not, I would be
willing to develop something more formal along the above guidelines, to be
reviewed by the RF&P board and the individual SIG’s to be utilized club-wide.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Chris

John,
I agree on that point. We need to make sure as well that if an individual
donates items we can provide them with the needed documents if they want to use
that donation for taxes.
I am in no hurry for that item and want to make sure it is done properly.
Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Technically the donation is to the RF&P since it is the 501c3. We really need
to establish a procedure to handle these things.

To all,
Wally, thanks for picking up the donation.
I would be interested in the water tank kit. If it meets the approval of all, I
will make a donation to the club for the kit, since it was donated to the club.
Thank you.

All: I picked up the items from Mr. Wagner today. 95% of the items are HO, but
there are some beautiful brass locomotives in that group. There is one 1/2”
scale water tank kit, if anyone is into LGB size. The O gauge items are what
looks to be an MPC DT&I SW1500 and about 6 MPC cars. Looks like Gilly doesn’t
have to bring his granddaughter’s set any longer :-).
We also have a hobbyist 4” disk sander, s Badger 380-11 airbrush compressor,
and the cutest little drill press, with bits. From the bottom of the base to
the top of the post is about 10”.
I’m away this weekend (again) from Friday through Monday, so I’ll deliver the
items when I get w/ Tom to rout the bridge module.

Chris:
Got your contact info from the Science Museum. My wife and I are selling our
big home in Henrico, and I have some 60 to 80 model railroad building kits,
engine kits (some brass unpainted), storage boxes, etc. that I would like to
sell or donate to a model railroad club. Most is in HO scale, although I do
have some old Lionel cars and an engine that one of my kids wanted years ago.
If you all are interested, contact me and we can set up a time for a couple of
you to come out and take a look. I need to have them out, though, no later than
the middle of next week as our house goes on the market the week after.
My home is in Henrico County, located just S of River Road just W of the Parham
Road overpass.
Thanks,
Karl
