All,

So I choose to do something a little different this weekend also, I
photographed a bunch of really small karts racing on a really big track.
They were a bunch of fun loving folks from all over, there were racers from
Virginia, CA, AZ, TX, OR, etc... and well you get the idea. And that doesn't
include the international drivers that were there, apparently they love
their karting in the UK & Australia. So, it's not the biggest thrill I've
had out at Miller but I was the only photog out there so I was everybody's
friend. So take a look, http://www.pbase.com/twistedlight/us_kart_grand_prix.
I don't know what the numbers were but there were a few karts doing the
outer loop in under two minutes, some of the bigger cc karts were hitting
close to 150 MPH down the front straight. However the wind was throwing even
the low-profile karts around so it really took a toll on them physically,
the races were all from 30 to 45 minutes so it was a tough day for the
drivers. I met a fun bunch of drivers from AZ that were just happy to get
out of the heat for a few days and oh by the way a few of them even managed
to get karts on the track. I understand that the rain on Friday was so heavy
that a few of the drivers abandoned their karts on the track and let the
recovery vehicles pick them up.

I think I saw a bit of oversteer but it's tough to tell with those tiny
karts and those tiny wheels. I saw only one spin the entire day, I guess
it's tough to spin a kart that's so close to the ground to begin with. Sorry
Larr. I looked at the website for the USKGP and there are a ton of
photographs from last years events, but most of them are out of focus so I'm
offering some of my pics to replace those, hope they take me up on it, I
hate looking at poor quality shots like that on an official website.

Well enjoy the pics, see you all at the track next Saturday for the vintage
bikes, now that should be fun!
