This BBC news article:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8224543.stm
demonstrates the importance of studying the Sun and the Solar/Terrestrial
environment, as we do in the Radio Jove project for schools.

The article also shows how scientific progress happens. You will notice
there are several opinions about it:

"This paper represents a useful step forward."

"It is not nearly as conclusive as they would have it."

"even if the amplifier exists, its climate leverage is still relatively
puny".
