Centos5 has php53 in the base repo. But, I don't think everything is
compatible, which is why it is a separate package and everyone might
not be able to use it. This came up recently on the Centos list and
someone pointed out that http://rpms.famillecollet.com/ has a
maintained version of 5.2.
