Yes, the Mark Lutz books are excellent for experienced programmers. ‘Learning Python’ along with the tutorial that comes with Python are probably all you need to pick up Python – if you are already a programmer. I think his other book ‘Programming Python’ is even better, but only after you are well versed in Python. Both are on BookShare. But those of you that are trying to learn both how to program and Python at the same time, I think the two books already recommended are much better. They ar ‘How to think like a computer scientist’ and ‘learn python the hard way’. Either one will provide a good starting ciriculum – just start working your way through the book you choose or both if you want.
