De achillespees blijkt complexer dan gedacht. Het is namelijk niet één pees,
maar bestaat uit drie verschillende pezen die onafhankelijk van elkaar kunnen
bewegen. Dit blijkt uit onderzoek van de VU onder leiding van onder meer
bewegingswetenschapper Huub Maas.

Nederland staat bekend om haar tolerantie van homo- seksualiteit. Tegelijk
blijft heteroseksualiteit wel de norm. Uit promotieonderzoek van socioloog
Jantine van Lisdonk blijkt dat 16-25-jarigen met een homo- en biseksuele
oriëntatie op veel manieren te maken krijgen met ongemakkelijke ontmoetingen,
waarin hun seksuele oriëntatie subtiel of expliciet wordt gemarkeerd, terwijl
het irrelevant zou moeten zijn.

Wil Uitgeest op de werking van kleur. Kleur roept onmiddellijk fysieke en
mentale reacties op, zonder tussenkomst van associaties en gedachten. De VU
opent 17 februari de expositie ColourBomb en een symposium over het fenomeen
kleur.

Voor Valentijnsdag belichten we opnieuw mooi onderzoek over de kunst van bij
elkaar blijven. Psycholoog en pedagoog Catrin Finkenauer volgde vier jaar lang
bijna tweehonderd pasgetrouwde stellen en vroeg hen het hemd van het lijf over
hun relatie. Zij heeft twaalf adviezen.
