Selecting Paper Grades With The Aid of the EM-10:

Place the probe of the EM-10 in a detailed area of
minimum density of the projected image on the
baseboard. This will be your Zone III selection.

Set the enlarger lens aperture for minimum.

Null the EM-10(green light).

Now, move the EM-10 probe to a detailed area of
maximum density. This will be your Zone VII
selection.

Open the enlarger lens aperture slowly, noting how
many stops it takes to null the EM-10(green light).

Select a paper grade based on the number of stops
difference observed in the step above and the chart
below:

Paper grade: 0 1 2 3 4 5
F stop range: 5 4.3 3.3 2.6 2 1.3

Someone posted this procedure on the web and I wish I
could remember who so they could receive the credit.
It works quite well

The meter also works well for establishing an exposure
value that is repeatable as the enlarge is raised or
lowered or as other variables are change, as someone
else (Richard I think) pointed out.
