I keep my working fixer in a 1 liter bottle. I agitate it before every use (but allow it time to settle, bubbles etc.). After I use my usual 450 ml, it goes back from the tank into a 1L beaker. I empty my 1L storage bottle into the beaker, test, mix, then use a straining funnel to pour back into the storage bottle. When a liter of fix is exhausted I empty it into the gallon jug I use to transport to recycling. I wash out my storage bottle by filling it half way with hot water, closing it, and shaking vigorously, then emptying. I do this at least three times. I let it drain for a couple of minutes, then I fill it with a fresh batch of working solution.

Do you routinely clean out the bottle you keep your fixer (diluted and ready for processing film) in? Last time I processed film I had trouble, if you remember, with little specks on the negatives. This morning I strained the fixer through several layers of cheesecloth, but then noticed when I washed the bottle out that little dark chips came out. I've washed it several times, but still a few small chips come up. Maybe that layer was a giant I shouldn't have awakened. Or do you clean out your bottle? = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = ====================================================================== To unsubscribe from this list, go to www.freelists.org and logon to your account (the same e-mail address and password you set-up when you subscribed,) and unsubscribe from there.
