Mark First I would consider starting an EBay search for an X-Rite or Drew silver recovery system. Usual $75 to $100 will buy the unit. If you are so inclined to make your own these are the problems you will need to consider. Circulation of the solution is necessary to furnish a continuous supply of silver bearing fixer to the cathode (negative plate). Controlling of plating current is important. A current of 8 amps will recover 1 try ounce of silver in 1 hour in a very efficient recovery cell. The plating efficiency is usually lower with silver concentrations below 1 gram per liter. The ASR-4 unit has a row of LEDs, and a switch to adjust the amperage. The bucket is filled; the amperage is adjusted to 4 amps. The cathode rotates and when the amperage indicating LEDs turn off the process is done. The E-rite works on the same principle except it has a meter. Usually some testing of silver concentrations are done the verify operation. If the current is not reduced as the silver concentration reduces in the fixer solution a sulfiding of the Cathode will take place. The cathode will look dark, soft, and mushy. The deposits should be a light to medium brown. If the deposits are pure white in color, and the solution concentrations are known to be low the current needs to be increased. An increase in voltage will increase amperage. The silver bucket may be a more practical option. mail1 <mail1@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: How much liquid are you planning to process, and how often?
