Without re-reading the entire thread I am not sure if drying method was mentioned. My appologies if it has been and I have missed it. It is possible for a print to pick up contamination during drying especially where blotters or screens are used. While modern fiberglass screens are easy to wash the older cheese cloth kind can become contaminated and must be washed with bleach to remove residual hypo, etc. The aprons on rotary or flat electric dryers also notorious for becoming contaminated but very few of these machines are used these days. The contamination from drying can be quite irregular so and blotchy so is a possible cause of the trouble here.
