I admit to having a Nikon Problem myself. My first "great" camera was a
shiny new Nikon F Photomic FtN Apollo. That brand has been dear to
my heart ever since, even though I primarily shoot medium- and large format
and have for years.
At present, I have a Nikkormat Ft, a chrome F, a black F Apollo (both with
working Photomic heads), and F2, a mint/almost unused F3, and a D750.
The F4 and thereafter never interested me. They seems to be the worst of
all possible worlds. To this day, when I want to shoot small format,
my first goto is one of those old Fs. 50+ years after they were made,
they work just fine. All I've done to them was put in new seals and
had them CLAed. I also did a little cleaning tuning to one of the
Photomic heads to get it straightened out. They meter accurately
against known good meters. However, the Nikkormat meter finally bit the dust :(
What's really great is that the bag of AI and AI-S lenses I have fit
every one of those cameras and work just fine with the D750s. I was
sorely disappointed with Nikon when they made a major mount change
for the Z-series. Yes, I know there is an adapter for the older lenses
but it's priced at stupid levels.
