If you use Dropbox, it would really help if you could put a picture of this in
Dropbox so we can see what you’re talking about.
I have never seen a Technika III, IV, V or Master with a ‘hard’ stop that
prevented the front standard from sliding back into the camera body. The whole
point of the Technika line was to use the basic idea of a fold-up “press
camera” and expand the adjustment possibilities to make it more “technical”.
I just had a look at my IV and Master. There is nothing on the right side of
the bed, beside the track, that would or could interfere with the front
standard sliding into the body. At the *front* of the bed just behind the focus
knob there is a cast object with two holes in it for a ring-like object that
holds the cable release (thumb end of the release). It just pushes into the two
holes, and pulls out. (The Master does not have this.) But even with the cable
release attached in this way, there is no problem sliding the front standard
back.

Well I might have just figured this thing out. The screw blocking the front
standard from going back appears to be a stop. Why they would put one there
without a way to release it is beyond me, but mine is not to question why. It
is only on the right side of the camera. It appears to be threaded into
something cast, which makes me believe its factory and not something someone
added later.
Does this mean the front standard must be removed from the rail on the bed and
manually inserted on to the track inside the base as a part of normal
operation? IF that is the case, the camera is fine. IF not would there be a
down side to working with the limitation other that its a pain in the neck.
Pain in the neck it might be, but it also might be livable.
Still find it hard to believe the old timers did news with these things.
Thanks in advance
