AN glass ... with a texture ... it's not necessarily bad.

Something I have only seen in passing is the use of coated
anti-reflective glass, coated as in the coating on a camera lens,
to prevent the formation of Newton's rings.

The glass and negative will come into the same contact as ever, but
the AR coating on the glass will prevent the formation of a reflecting
cavity between the glass and the negative.

Obviously, with AR glass there are no texture problems. But then it seems there aren't any texture problems to begin with, at least in 4x5.
