I would be very, very interested in obtaining one of these microphones, but I
do not have access to EBay. Are there any alternative ways to get in on such a
good deal?

I was doing some searching on single point microphones this
morning and found something that looks like a good deal. The Sony
ecm-ds70p
For some reason many vendors on Ebay are liquidating this model for
between $6 and $10. I am not sure why. Checking on amazon customers
are paying between $40 and $50 and giving it very posative reviews.
At this price I am buying one sight unseen (grin)
