Quite likely, though Ben's analysis is plausible too. In any case I think
it's fine as-is. Lone Wolf entered on the ground floor (= US first floor),
went up the stairs to the landing on the first floor (= US second floor),
and found a short sword hanging over the fireplace on that floor (*not*
going up another floor). He then fought some villagers, killed them, and
jumps out the window on that floor, the first-floor (= US second-floor)
window.
An alternative reading would be that Lone Wolf goes back downstairs after
the fight (he is, after all, trying to "leave by the front door"), but
faced with another mob, he then jumps out of the ground-floor (= US
first-floor) window. This assumes that Dever has slipped into a US idiom
(unlikely), but it may make the passage slightly more palatable to our US
readers... ;-)
