G'day,

I'm definitely interested in the notes regarding your efforts relating to
the unattended installation of SQLServer 2008 Express! Also with the
/PID="" switch does this mean a product ID is not required? I've tried on
numerous occasions to find where to generate a product key for SQLServer
2008 Express, i.e. searching the installer with the JAWS cursor for an
appropriately labelled option, registering the fact I've got SQLServer 2008
Express with a new user profile through MS's site, re-installing the package
in a clean VM, etc, and so far all my attempts have been in vain.

...slowly going nuts :)

All help greatly appreciated.

Cheers.
AB

Sorted, questions 2 and 3 was my anser as I had evaluation versions of sql
server 2005 and 2008 which confused the issue.

Regarding the first question:

One can extract the executable installation file in a setup folder and use
the setup.exe whith the /help parameter to obtain all the possible
commandline switches.

Several sites promis to give only the required parameters and by browsing
several, a little trial and error, I managed to get it working.
For SQL server 2008 express, you need the /PID="".
Happy to share my notes if any one is interested. This range from creating
a sql server user, the unattended installation to enabling the network
protocols and connecting to the database.

With kind regards

Hi: First, where did you find the unattended install?
Second, where are the files for the Database located, in what folder?
Third when you say you could not attach to your database in ASP do you mean
from within a Visual Studio or Visual Web Developer project?

Hello,
An error I hope some one can shed some light on please?

Ok, so I got sql server 2008 express installed using the unattended setup.
I can connect to the database with the ssms.
However I cannot add a sql server item to my asp project, get the following
error:
"cannot open log source for 'devenv'. You might not have write access.

Tried to follow advice pertaining to the devenv.exe with various switches,
/resetskippkgs
/log
/setup etc. with no joy.
