I would actually generally just use PDF2TXT to strip such a manual into a text file, since then it's easy enough to use notepad or edsharp to read, search, etc. etc. the contents thereof.
I think you can also just send a PDF file to edsharp, to do a simple conversion for you, or even save it from within acrobat itself as a text file - unless it's protected/needs a password to read it etc.

I'm having a problem because the contents are not links, and when I want to go to a section I see like 6-2, where a page number should be.
