hello,

I'm going to try to keep the opinions down, and stick to the facts, smile.

for most of what you need, in general, my grab bag site (see links under my name below) has most of it, I don't know if there is a "by hand" tutorial in the text tutorials that Jamal has assembled, but if you go to the Jamal's documentation page off the home page, you can download a package of quite a few tutorials for VB.net.

and on the home page there are links for the hot keys list, initial setup of .net list, jaws scripts, and a few other things from the grab bag that you might like.

HTH,

Hi Kelly,
I first want to say that if this is the same Kelly I am thinking of, I very much appreciate the SoundForge tutorial you made. It helped me move a project forward at work.

We had a thread about this topic just this week on the list. It seemed to me as I think back on it that several people recommended learning a programming language like C#, Ruby, PHP, Perl, or Python. We also have some VB programmers out here. We also have a division of opinions on which language is best to start with. We also have a division of opinions on whether or not to use a programming environment or a text editor. My advice is to do what you want after listening to people argue about it for a while. Mixed in with that noise will be some good advice. We have a lot of great people out here on this list with strong opinions.

Thanks.

Jim

Subject: Questions Regarding Getting Started in Programming

Hi,
I'm trying to get into programming, and decided to use Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition. I haven't quite figured out how to write programs with it, other than the "Hello World" example. I'm actually used to typing in code (similar to when I used to write programs in GW Basic for DOS years ago), rather than have an IDE do it for me. Is it possible to type in VB code by hand, and if so, are there any good resources for learning about this? Alternatively, is there a better Windows language suitable for this? I want to start out by writing simple programs, such as a multiple choice trivia game, or even a Guess The Number thing. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
   Thanks.

Yours Sincerely,
Kelly John Sapergia
