Hmm, pretty strange. I've made a translation of a file that has 1.6 KB which is more than 500 chars. Maybe the perl module I use splits the text in more phrases and send them separately, but at a certain moment it couldn't split in phrases that have less than 500 chars,... but in that case it should display the first translated part...
I think I need to look in the source code of that module, or read better its documentation. I tried more translation modules these days, so I don't remember which of them splits the text in more pieces (because I remember that there is at least a module that does that).
Anyway, I will probably do that split in the program and send groups of phrases that have less than 500 chars. Thank you for telling me about this limit.
I've taken the list of languages that can be used for translation from Google's site. There are more than 80 languages which are supported by Google, but not for translation. 

Here is what you will find under the list of those more than 80 languages:
"The Google AJAX Language API currently detects all languages listed above. A subset of those languages are translatable and are listed below. Any two languages from the following list can be translated." 

Then you will find a shorter list of languages.
For the program I used WxPerl because it supports UTF-8, while Win32::GUI supports UTF-8 only with some hacks and only using a RichText field.

Google does not allow submission of text exceeding 500 characters in
length to their service (see Terms of Use). This module will check the
length of text
passed to its methods and will fail if text is too long (without sending
a request to Google).

Hi,
Jamal came with the idea of creating a translator by using Google, so I've made a Desktop program for Windows that does that.
The original version also offers the possibility of chosing the backend between Google and Babelfish, but if I include the translator by Babelfish, I can't pack the program using perlapp. I know why, but I don't know how to solve it yet, so I've created a version that can translate only using Google.
Anyway, Google offers much more language pairs than Babelfish, and even though it gives very many errors, it also gives many good translations. 

You can download the program from:

You can choose the source and destination languages from combo boxes.
You can type the source text into a multiline field, or you can choose to open a text file with the text you want to translate. 
You can also save the generated translation into a text file.
I've tried to translate a file which is a little bigger than 1.6 kb (from romanian to english) but Google didn't translate anything. If I removed a few sentences to make the file smaller, it translated the file with no problems. For the moment I don't know if Google has a size limit, or it encountered some chars/words it doesn't like, but I will make some more tests.
I've made the program without an installer because it doesn't need other external files to run.
I don't know if the translation to Bulgarian and Japanese work because I've made a simple test but it wasn't successfully passed.
