fat should work--fat 32, anyway. My tb hd was fat32 for a while, as I don't like using NTFS

My external 250Gb USB drive doesn't give me any hassles if I go into the format dialogue, but it's a form of backup/archive so doesn't really happen very often.

What file system were you going for? Mine is set to NTFS, and I can choose from allocation unit sizes etc. etc., but the actual capacity is greyed out/disabled and says 243Gb, but I'm not going to try format it now.

Only other thing I can think of is to make sure quick format isn't checked since I think it would then try to just redo the current configuration as such.

Stay well

Are you formatting it as NTFS? If you chose FAT then that sounds right.

Help:

I just picked up a 100 Gb USP drive and for the life of me I can't get it to format beyond about 2 GB on the primary drive.

It has a cable with one end having a single USB connection and the other end has a double connection.... Would I have to plug in the duel ended side into the PC using to ports and the other end into the external drive?

Really just to overwhelmed and tire to give a rats a$$ at the moments so just a quick and dirty answer would suffice.
