Do you want to learn Python, but are unsure of how to start? This may be your
answer.

A new study group for learning Python is being started on the pythonvis mailing
list. Anyone interested in learning the Python programming language is welcome
to join. Of course, anyone that already knows Python is also welcome to join.

The study group uses Python version 2.7.9 and is focused on the language and
the Standard Library. GUIs are not covered at this time since our focus is the
Python language. The differences between version 2 and version 3 are small
enough that you could use Python version 3 with some minor code changes, but
the library support is not as good for version 3.

The study group is not a formal class, but a place to ask questions and share
experiences while learning Python. There is no schedule so you can move at
your own pace. In addition to using the pythonvis list for questions, there
are two chat sessions each week. See the webpage for more details.

There are many books available on Python. BookShare has several and there are
free e-books available on-line as well. The study group can give you book
suggestions dependent on your programming experience and other circumstances.
