Although use Loadstone quite often, I don't make use of it's automatic route processing functionality, but it is there - look at their online documentation/quickstart guide.

Thanks Pranav

I've taken a look at the loadstone site which looks like it is more about
navigating to somewhere rather than simply capturing a route as you travel. Do you know whether this software will capture the lat/long and timestamp it
as you travel? Just thought I'd ask but if you're not sure I'll ask on the
mailling list.

I think I understand what's going on now though so thanks.

Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian,
Go for loadstone GPS at
http://www.loadstone-gps.com.

Otherwise, if you want a pc based solution, there are samples of .net
code out there. You need a bluetooth or USB GPS receiver and you then
need to parse the NMEA centenses that the receiver sends you.

Has anyone had any experience with working with GPS data please? I'm
looking
at getting something that I can take with me on walks etc to capture my
route, elevation, speed and time and believe this can all be obtained from
GPS data produced by most GPS devices. I know there are specific devices
that do this sort of thing but suspect the interface provided, either by
the
device itself, or the software that comes with the device, is likely to be
unuseable and unless anyone knows different and has practical experience
with using such a device and can tell me otherwise, suspect it will be
quicker for me to write something myself based on the raw GPS data (GPX
file).

I know there are talking GPS systems but really don't want to be spending
lots of money for such things and would ideally just like to take some
small
simple device that will simply capture the data on route and then that I
can
just plug into my PC with a USB and copy the raw data off it and then
present the data that I am interested in and in an accessible way.

I have found lots of sites that do this sort of thing and believe it is
very
simple. But most of these plot routes on maps which although very nice,
isn't very easy to use for me. So I'm hoping that between these sites that
provide the graphical data for others to use, and my own accessible
presentation of the stuff like, overall elevation, max elevation, max
speed,
min elevation etc, it will provide a comprehensive report.

If anyone has any suggestions or can point me in the right direction to
work
out how to get this sort of data directly from the raw data that would be
great.
