VS is fairly accessible as a binary editor, the hard part is
determining exactly where those edits need to go (which was only
somewhat easier when I could see).

Hex and binary editing does happen a lot in malware research and
exploitation development in the cybersecurity side of things, and I know

Editing binary files is extremely uncommon for me, and VS works well
enough when I do. Usually for viewing I use the *nix hexdump -C in a
regular console, piped through less.
