No message, no hint of trouble -- nothing but a useable terminal. If you apply just patch #1, then if /proc is not mounted the user will be left with a blank screen. No message, no hint of trouble AND an unusable terminal that may or may not be resettable. If you do nothing, then the user will be told that /proc isn't mounted and will even be instructed on how to mount it. Jim
