BTW, the high quality mpeg version is NOT always BETTER
quality! Sometimes the lower quality FLV is better. It
depends on how bad or good the original is. If it's some kind
of horrible c*ell phone video, the FLV version will usually
look better. It makes sense because if the original is
pixelated, grainy, etc., a video file type that has more detail
and sharper frames will show all of those imperfections.
Whereas the lower quality FLV with less detail and less
sharpness, will look better. You just have to try both if it's
an important video you want to keep.

Thanks, looks like that version won't work either from the
reviews on its page. It works "almost" every time? I guess
it's buggy like all the rest. I see they have a few more at
that site on its download page, I guess I'll try those.
The problem with all of these I've ever seen, is (if they even
work), they'll only download the low quality .FLV version.
99%+ of the videos there have high quality .mpeg versions. You
can see them by appending &fmt=18 onto the end of the URL.
Even after doing that, most still won't download that version
because it's not an flv file. What I'm using for FF will
download both but only after you put the &fmt=18 on the end,
and only after several tries each. What I was and am now using
on FF is a plugin/extension so you don't have to use an
additional program running, you just click an icon on FF's
toolbar and it does the download. I'm looking for something
like that for IE.
www.keepvid.com is really nice site. The obvious drawback to
it is having to go to the site for every video you want to
download, but it does work every time, instantly, and they give
you the flv version and the high quality mpeg version at the
same time and you can chose the one you want.

It works almost every time.
I selected it after trying out many others, and this was (for
me) the best
of the bunch. Yes, it's freeware. Yes, it works with IE.
According to the site, YouTube changed its embed code, so
earlier versions
of the Downloader (and presumably, those from other sources)
will not work.

out what I WAS using on FireFox that worked so well, I lost it
and now I can't find it again! I have never found one that
works in IE! All the ones for FF or so buggy it's pathetic.
You have reload the page several times for the download to
start, or it usually takes several attempts at downloading the
file because it keeps downloading 0 byte file sizes!
What I was using was an icon at the lower right corner of the
FF window, but it is NOT "Fast Video Download" which doesn't
work AT ALL. It's also not "DownloadHelper" which I have to
use now until I can find what I was using.
