Actually, it "could" make a difference, but it may depend some on the mobo and type of use. I've done countless benchmarks on HD's and a HD being a Slave is always a bit slower than it being the Master (of course this is N/A with SATA HD's). But if all you use the PC for is email and the internet, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. If however you're doing something like audio/video editing/reading/writing with larger files, to & from the HD in question, you'll probably notice a difference. If the HD is just for storage or backup, then you may want to make it a slave due to the fact your have an optical burner which usually works best as the Master. If however you are indeed using the HD in question as storage/backup and you write/read large backup images to/from it, it's something to consider that it being the Slave would slow down that process. If that's not an issue for you and if things are working fine now, then "if it ain't broke don't fix it". ;-) If it is an issue for you and your CD burner works ok as a Slave, then make the HD's the Masters. -Clint Merry Christmas to all & God Bless, Clint Hamilton, Owner www.OrpheusComputing.com www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com www.OrpheusComputing.com/most_reliable_cheapest_webhosting.html www.OrpheusComputing.com/office/computer_accessories.html http://Computer-Hardware-Sales-Consumer-Electronics-Sales.com Domain names for sale: http://www.AdvancementsInMedicine.com http://www.Cloning-Research.com http://www.CuringDisease.com http://www.Dow-Jones-Stocks.com (PLEASE include ALL previous correspondence when replying to this email or you will NOT receive a reply!!) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom" I have a computer with two hard drives, as master and slave on the main channel, a CD burner as master on the secondary channel and a CD reader as a slave. Would I gain anything by making the second hard drive a master on the secondary channel and making the two CD drives as slaves on each channel?
