Hi Anitra,
Grieg wrote the Peer Gynt suites (I and II) as incidental music for Ibsen's 
play.
In the play, Anitra is the daughter of a desert sheik; she's is romanced by 
Peer Gynt, the play's leading character, and "Anitra's Dance" was written 
for the scene where she dances for him.
