I do use web mail for yahoo and gmail...
I use outlook express for stationary, applets and ect.

I don't use webmail.  I POP my mail into my Outlook Express.  HTML in 
Yahoogroups come through just fine.  Even when I was using Y!POPS 
before I went to paid mail.

If you use webmail only I don't know how it handles HTML.  But they 
have a fancy new webmail interface that should recognize and display 
HTML.
