Pick the best answer for your situation.  Using the HOSTS file to avoid bad 
websites also avoids a TON of advertising and other website and email 
content.  IF the disfigurement of your websites and email is not disruptive 
to your enjoyment of the internet and email then using a HOSTS file may be 
right for you.

Numerous sites have sample HOSTS files with literally THOUSANDS of entries 
in them.
