Google is a whole different monster. Obviously, Google is the top-rated search
engine that companies and webmasters want to get in, and that's no surprise.
When was the last time you put a search into Google and didn't get what you
were looking for on the first page.
:o)
Anyhow... Google uses the spider technique to index your site. Basically, that
means Google sends a bot to your site, and it'll go through your site and every
single page in your site, and index each page, ranking what it believes to be
the keywords and key topics. Much more complicated than I can explain. And, the
formula is such a mystery, that there's literally hundreds of sites out there
trying to figure it out and make a buck.

Anyway... until your site is indexed, a search on Google will not yield your
site in the results. You need to submit the URL to your site to Google, so it
can send a bot over. Otherwise, it'll index it if it finds it through another
site, meaning a site that has a link to your site will steer the bot in your
direction.

Here's a load of info regarding the matter directly from Google themselves:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/

And, here, you can also submit the URL.
