You're warm Sandi,

It's a device you plug into a USB port, then take the memory card from 
your camera or other device and plug into it to load the contents on 
your computer. They usually read several different types of cards.I'd 
rather just use the USB cord that came with my camera, rather than 
removing the SD card all the time. Would be handy if you had a camera 
with a missing USB cable I suppose.
