How are all your other fans in the machine? Can you check in your BIOS if you have any monitoring section? If so, after a shutdown you can go into the BIOS and check the temperature of the CPU and see if maybe that's overheating. ::: Troth ::: ______________________ ICQ: 1717439 MSN: SirTroth@xxxxxxxxxxx Yahoo IM: SirTroth AIM/AOL: SirTrothX ______________________ ::: Original Message ::: Sent Sat, 03 Jan 2004 13:50:53 -0400 by DavisUnit | I'm working on a PIII-550 machine that has randomly been shutting | down/restarting - sometimes within an hour, somtimes within 3 hours or | more. My first thoughts lead to the power supply or ram. So, after | completely wiping hard drive and reinstalling XP, I install and run | burnin software for testing. There are 3 sticks of sdram - 256mb, 128mb | and 64mb. I run the machine with only one ram stick at a time, and run | the burnin software - only to see the pc shutdown/restart with each | one. Next I replace the power supply (with higher 400w version), and it | seems to run good....only to see it shutdown/restart after about 12 | hours of use. When it'll happen again is anyone's guess. | So, what else should I be looking at? | | Thanks, | Terry | | To unsub or change your email settings: | //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk | | To access our Archives: | http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ | //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ | | For more info: | //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ For more info: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk
