Perhaps the Clean Desktop of unused icons program ran. I think it is set to
automatically run every so often unless you change it.

Hi Friends,
Everything was going normally and all of a sudden I have lost half of my
desktop icons. It is strange but nearly all that are gone are involved with
system maintenance and security, ie Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware,
Regcleaners, Defrag, etc. I am running XP Pro and have tried 2 System
restores to no avail. Can any suggest ,my next move?
TIA for any help you can offer.
