I've had arthroscopic knee surgery twice on one knee and once on the other. The first surgery took about three months to be 'normal' again. 7 years later when a fall caused damage in both knees, the same surgery (I pretty much duplicated the injury from the first time), my parents picked me up at the hospital and on the way home, I had them stop at the Post Office where I stood in line and mailed a package. Once home, I fixed dinner for all of us before they went home. By the day after the surgery, I was sitting in a yoga position for up to 15 minutes at a time before my knee would remind me it had surgery. The difference in the first surgery to the second wasn't the injury, it's the skill of the doctor. The first time it was a fairly new procedure. Now that surgeon has done thousands of operations and the healing time for both knees was maybe two weeks. Stitches (one stitch in each of three incisions on each knee (and they did the knees one at a time in case there was a surprise in either surgery (as you might need help getting up and down and I lived alone at that point), came out in five days and I didn't need any physical therapy whatsoever. The skill of the surgeon is very important. I was fortunate as my surgeon was considered one of the top ones in the entire country.
