Hello again, ORIGINAL MESSAGE: I've heard that it is not smart to open spam mail as the sender is then able to know that "you are there". With that in mind, how does one get to the "Block Sender" line without opening the particular mail you want to block? ... Harold From: " milady" <tiggr_2_cat@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Only thing I have heard is you shouldn't RESPOND to any spammish type notes..in other words don't answer it and tell them to delete your addy. IF you continually get junk from one source --same address--you can create a message rule that will dump the offender into delete folder before you ever see it. From: "cris" <cris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> I've heard this also - it supposedly can send a message home - somehow. I don't take the chance.not sure if it helps, but you can view the source of the e-mail without opening it. highlight the e-mail and right click and choose properties, Details tab, and message source ... you can also to to file/properties after it is highlighted ... Cris From: "Glo" <redowl@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Hi Harold, assuming you can tell just from the 'from' line whether or not a message is spam, you can block it this way: in OE click on view, select "layout' from the dropdown. In the lower half of the window uncheck 'show preview pane'. This way your email will be displayed in a list and the only way to open it is to double-click on it. If you recognize something as spam you can hilite it without it opening and then click on 'message' and 'block sender'. This is all in w-Me, don't know if XP has the same options (?) ~Glo RESPONSE ... Seems Glo's suggestion might work. Except that it is a pain to keep playing around with the panes. Outlook Express should make it easier to get around this problem. Most of the time it's no problem spotting spam; when will the world realize that I am not interested in extenders and enhancers. I think (might be wrong) that it is possible for a sender to configure the email so that upon it being opened, a return receipt is sent back to the sender. I recall seeing that option someplace (maybe in Netscape; I'm not sure). And if that's the case, and you don't want the senders to know you're there, the OE system is faulty ... Harold Not Related to this subject ... Getting the digest form of this newsletter, I still find the unending footers a most annoying feature. When there's a response to any posting,; two, three, a dozen footers appear for that one response. I know it's been discussed before but just though I'd mention it again ...
