Hey SirT, this is great advise. Seems kind of straight forward, but it never 
occurred to me to try!  Thank you..this is another piece of advice that I will 
definitely keep :)

  If after reinstalling the driver, the unit works fine, its probably not the
  unit... its the software. That would mean something is either corrupting the
  driver, or the driver is not compatible with the OS. If you're using Vista,
  Iwould double-check the driver support for the OS. But, assuming you're
  usingXP, its probably something corrupting the driver.
  What you can also try is creating an additional XP user account, and seeing
  if the printer works flawlessly in THAT account. If it screws up in your
  mainaccount, but not the new account, it could just be two apps clashing
  (one possibly being what's running in the background).
