NOD32 has it's own control, but what you're likely seeing there is its transparency setting. Go into the Advanced settings and click on User Interface > Alerts & Notifications. Then click on the Configure Notifications button to access the transparency setting. You can also set how long you want them to show. I have no idea what you could do for washed out graphics. That's not something that should be under the control of the OS.
