LIONEL WROTE: As Hank said , the Screen saver mucks things up, delete it. I found that if I went off line it helps a lot too. I use to go to Run, msconfig, Startup, and uncheck a lot of things in there too, It seemed to help. SUGGESTION: Anything you do to lighten the load on a computer will help it in its running (and we'll still always have problems). Just using the many free system cleaners that are available online will help not just in the defragging process but also in all the programs that you operate on your computer. Regarding msconfig, Starup, the only lines I have there are: SystemTray, LoadPowerProfile (two lines), Keyboard Manager, and AVG (an excellent v*rus checker). More than that means more programs are running in the background grinding up more system resources. In addition, all those other lines can easily be removed from that Startup window using the Registry. Anyone interested in how, just ask. Deleting unnecessary fonts from the Fonts folder speeds things up (some are necessary; some just slow up the computer). Here you have to know which are needed. You might note that keeping your "Close Programs" window (Ctrl+Alt+Del, sometimes called the three finger salute), keeping it light also helps in many ways. Systray and Explorer are absolutely needed. The others I have are 1. Rnaapp, needed for the internet; it appears the first time upon logging onto the internet, and then it remains on the Ctrl/Alt/Del window. It stands for Remote Network Access Application. 2. Msgloop, used with Rnaapp to dial into the internet 3. Msg32, used with Rnaapp to dial into the internet Depending upon how you use the computer, and the amount of junk files that you've accumulated (we all do and that's why "system cleaners" are necessary), you can keep all the above and a weekly defrag shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. Hank is right, the screen saver must be turned off in the Display Properties window.
