Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Create a SAFER Recycle Bin!

As per requested, he's very simple instructions on making another recycle
bin, one that can be used as a safe-haven for deleted files that you really
aren't sure if they might be needed one day.

1. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A ZIP PROGRAM INSTALLED.

This really only applies if you have anything other than WinXP. WinXP has
its own support for zip files, so technically you can use whatever WinXP
gives you. If you have anything other than XP, you need to get a zipping
program. You've got WinZip, WinRar, and a ton more. A search in Google for
zip program will turn up numerous freeware zippers/unzippers for your use,
should you feel as cheap as me.

:o)

2. CREATE A NEW ZIP FILE ON THE DESKTOP.

Right-click on the desktop, select NEW | WINZIP ARCHIVE (or WINRAR ZIP
ARCHIVE, or whatever zip program you're using). Point is, you're creating a
new zip document on the desktop. The file will obviously be empty. Call that
new file whatever you like. For this example, we'll call it SAFER RECYCLE
BIN.ZIP.

3. CREATE A SHORTCUT TO THAT NEW ZIP FILE.

Right-click on that SAFER RECYCLE BIN.ZIP file you created, and select
CREATE SHORTCUT. You'll now see a shortcut to that file pop up right below
it on the desktop. Rename that shortcut (get rid of that pre-"shortcut to"
words and rename it to like SAFER RECYCLE BIN.

4. MOVE THAT SHORTCUT FROM THE DESKTOP TO THE "SENDTO" MENU.

Now that you have that shortcut created, go ahead and navigate to the SendTo
directory. In XP, its under C:\Documents and Settings\account_name\SendTo,
where account_name is replaced with the profile/user/account you're using.In
my case, my XP account is called SirTroth, so the SendTo menu is located
at" C:\Documents and Settings\SirTroth\SendTo". Anyway. once there, you're
going to move that shortcut you created from the desktop to the SendTo
directory. You can move it in three ways. First method. right-click the
shortcut, select CUT, and then go to the SendTo directory and right-click
inside that directory and do PASTE. Second method. while holding down SHIFT,
do a drag-n-drop using the left mouse button. Third method. right-click
drag-n-drop from the desktop to the SendTo directory. When you let go, it'll
ask if you want to MOVE, COPY or CREATE A SHORTCUT. You will select MOVE.

5. DONE.

There goes. make sure you have that SAFER RECYCLE BIN.ZIP file there on your
desktop, preferably right next to the true recycle bin. When you want to
delete something, you can right-click on it, go to SENDTO, and select SAFER
RECYCLE BIN. Nice and smooth.

Any questions?
