Hello Keyboard Cowboy, thank you for this great information. I have =
just
downloaded and installed the sidebar. I just love this program. It is =

very powerful and handy. I do use Outlook, so it is a blessing for me.
Thanks again for this post.

Subject: -=3DPCTechTalk=3D- Re: [CHAD] WMP 9 - Cross post

I've cross-posted this to several groups.

I finally decided to download and install WMP 9. I'd heard that WMP=20
9 had several quirks and had put of loading it. The only reason I=20
did so now was because I downloaded and installed a program called=20
Sidebar that someone recommended recently. More on that in a minute.
=20
The installation of WMP 9 was not clean -- I had to install it=20
several times as I kept getting a message it wasn't fully installed -=20
try again. I finally resorted to what should be a standard operating=20
procedure.............turn off ALL programs and install clean. When=20
I did this, it still said it didn't install, but I opened it and it=20
worked just fine. I haven't had a problem since ???
=20
On a side note, the program SideBar (which was the cause for my=20
downloading WMP 9) is pretty cool. I tried this program on=20
recommendation of another reader as part of a test of several=20
"newsfeed" programs. I wanted programs that would provide news=20
information in Tickertape fashion without the SPAM/ads/etc. or=20
security issues (want a lot don't I? <G>). I tried several and=20
dumped all but two immediately. The two I really liked were this=20
SideBar program, and the BBC tickertape. The BBC program is ad free=20
and runs great. Obviously it's based on news from Europe, though. I=20
like this as it gives a different slant to world news than we get=20
here in the US -- and that may be even more important in the near=20
future.
=20
SideBar works pretty well so far and is very, very configurable. =20
This is a freeware program and is loads of fun to work with. Here's=20
the site:
=20
http://www.sidebarxp.republika.pl/
=20
I use the XP version, though there are versions for other Win OS=20
versions. If you use MS Outloook, it's quite powerful. I don't (I=20
use Poco) but there are many other neat options including:
=20
The SideBar shows the following:
=20
* Clock panel =96 This is very simple panel, just an ordinary clock=20
but when you rest your mouse on it, it will display a calendar in a=20
details window.=20
* Calendar Panel =96 This panel displays your appointments from=20
Microsoft Oulook.=20
* Tasks Panel =96 This panel displays your Tasks from Microsoft=20
Outlook.=20
* Inbox Panel =96 This panel shows the contents of your Inbox. If you=20
rest your mouse on message it displays message body in a details=20
window. You can choose any mail folder to display in this window and=20
of course you can display any number of such panels.=20
* Notes Panel =96 This panel displays your Notes folder from Microsoft=20
Outlook. As in the case of others =93Outlook=94 panels you can add or=20
remove notes to Outlook by the context menu in this panel.=20
* Messenger Panel =96 This panel displays your contacts from Windows=20
Messenger=20
* Newsroom Panel =96 This panel is RSS/RDF Newsfeed reader. You can=20
display news downloaded from many servers around a globe in this=20
panel.=20
* Performance Panel =96 This panel displays information about the=20
workload of your computer.=20
* Disk Monitor =96 This panel informs you about the amount of free=20
space on your hard drive.=20
* Media Player =96 This panel allows you to control Windows Media=20
Player from Sidebar and information about playing media is displayed=20
here so if you are curious what is playing just look at Sidebar=20
* Toolbar panel =96 You can move Quick Launch toolbar from Windows=20
Taskbar to this panel. This will allow you to save precious space on=20
your taskbar.=20
=20
Not bad for free....eh?
=20
Now, add the SideBar to Dave's Search Bar (also free) and you have=20
some awesome power in your toolbar. Dave's Tool Bar can be found at:
=20
http://www.dqsd.net/
=20
>From the site -- Dave's Quick Search Deskbar is a tiny textbox that
Dave Bau designed for search hounds with weary mouse-fingers. Unlike=20
the Google Toolbar, this little deskbar lets you launch searches=20
without starting a web browser first, directly from your Windows=20
Explorer Taskbar. Don't forget to look at the other various search=20
capabilities that are part of the program. A right click on the=20
search window gives you a menu with lots of choices besides Google=20
for your searches!

This is a great combination. I'm finally getting to my "ultimate=20
setup" -- you know, those programs you simply can't live without! =20
......I started to type "try them all -- they have the coveted=20
Master NetLord Seal of Approval". Ya know, it's time to update the=20
slogan though. Let me say .................... These all have the=20
coveted Keyboard Cowboy Seal of Approval!! Enjoy.=20
